Empowering Girls Through Menstrual Health
At Waesta Enterprises U Ltd, we believe that every girl deserves a quality education, free from the limitations of period poverty. That’s why we’re partnering with Ecopads, a local manufacturer of reusable sanitary pads, to provide girls in Uganda with the tools and resources they need to manage their periods with dignity and confidence.
The Problem: Period Poverty in Uganda
In Uganda, many girls lack access to proper menstrual hygiene products and education. This can lead to a number of challenges, including:
- Absenteeism from school: Girls may miss up to eight days of school each term due to their periods, putting them at risk of falling behind in their studies.
- Health problems: Improper menstrual hygiene can lead to infections and other health complications.
- Shame and stigma: Menstruation is often a taboo subject in Uganda, which can lead to girls feeling ashamed and isolated.
Our Solution: Reusable Sanitary Pads and Menstrual Health Education
We’re working with Ecopads to provide girls in Uganda with reusable sanitary pads and menstrual health education. Reusable pads are a sustainable and affordable solution that can help girls stay in school and manage their periods with dignity.
Our program also includes:
- Menstrual health education workshops: These workshops teach girls about the menstrual cycle, proper hygiene practices, and how to manage pain.
- Teacher training: We train teachers to provide ongoing support and education to girls about menstrual health.
- Community outreach: We work with communities to break down the stigma surrounding menstruation and create a more supportive environment for girls.
